Heat Advisory June 6th-8th

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a heat advisory throughout most of the Commonwealth. The advisory is issued from Sunday 6/6 to Tuesday 6/8 with most of the region experiencing temperatures above 90 degrees. Temperature highs will be 90-95 degrees each day of the advisory with Monday 6/7 being the hottest forecasted day. The heat index (Apparent Temperature) values will be in the mid to upper 90s on Monday and low 90s on Tuesday. The heat wave is expected to break Wednesday (6/9) night bringing cooler and less humid weather on Thursday and Friday.

Impacts/Potential Impacts

  • Very hot temperatures with moderate humidity
  • Overnight lows remain very warm, not cooling below 70F in the urban centers
  • Potential of heat related issues to at risk population and those doing higher levels of outdoor physical activities

  • Never leave children or pets alone in a closed vehicle. Even with the windows cracked open, interior temperatures can rise almost 20°F within 10 minutes
  • Check with your local officials to find locations of cooling centers near you
  • Know the symptoms of and watch out for heat-related illnesses like heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke. Call 9-1-1 to report emergencies.

Be a good neighbor. Check on family, friends, and neighbors, especially the elderly, those who live alone, those with medical conditions, those who may need additional assistance, and those who may not have air conditioning.
