County Commissioners Prepare to Bid Farewell to County Administrator Jack Yunits, Jr.
For Immediate Release
March 4, 2021 (Barnstable, MA.) – The Barnstable County Commissioners are preparing for County Administrator Jack Yunits, Jr.’s departure, slated for late spring.
The three County Commissioners would like to take an opportunity to thank Yunits for his dedication and leadership during his tenure as County Administrator. As former Mayor of Brockton, Yunits has long had a reputation for recruiting and developing top talent. It was a key reason he was hired to lead Barnstable County. As County Administrator, he spent his entire time at the County mentoring and developing a competent management team and a very strong group of Department Heads.
Chairman Ronald Bergstrom said, “Jack Yunits will be leaving Barnstable County in the best shape, organizationally and financially, than it has ever been in thanks to his leadership. He demanded a lot from his staff, and they responded admirably. I have always relied on his advice and counsel in making the tough decisions facing the Commissioners. He will be hard to replace. I wish him the best in his future endeavors.”
Barnstable County Vice-Chair Sheila Lyons remarked, “I was on the Board when Jack was hired. It was a transition time for Barnstable County government, a new administrator, a new treasurer, and several Department Heads retiring. Jack had done a great job managing people and projects, building a culture of teamwork, and being able to pivot when a particular approach wasn’t working, all with a positive, supportive attitude.”
Commissioner Mark Forest added, “I have worked closely with Jack Yunits ever since his days at Brockton City Hall. He’s always been a class act, and we will miss him. “
The three candidates who emerged in this internal search process to replace Yunits all have a strong record of accomplishments in their positions at Barnstable County. These candidates are Human Services Director Beth Albert, Cape Cod Center for Public Safety Training Director Philip Burt, Cape Cod Cooperative Extension Director Michael Maguire. Interviews were live streamed on the County’s YouTube channel on Wednesday, beginning at 1:00 PM.
According to Human Resources Director Justyna Marczak, “Jack Yunit’s last day is still to be determined, and he has committed to staying on board in any capacity that the Commissioners will need to help ensure a smooth transition.”
