October 7, 2020 – High Wind Warning in Barnstable, Dukes, and Nantucket Counties
A high wind and possible thunderstorm event is expected today impacting Massachusetts with the potential of strong, damaging winds resulting in electric customer outages. Outages are generally spread throughout the state. Weather forecasts indicate the hazardous wind gusts and storms should be tapering off on Thursday.
A cold front will move through the area this afternoon bringing breezy winds and scattered showers. A few embedded thunderstorms will also be possible. Southwest winds up to 55-60 mph are possible. There remains uncertainty on how widespread the strongest gusts will be. There is concern for damage due to foliated trees. Dry weather will return during the evening. Winds will diminish some overnight but remain breezy through Thursday afternoon before diminishing further. Dry and quiet weather will follow for Friday.
