Cape Cod Healthcare Awards Barnstable County ‘Ask a Public Health Nurse Program’ $3K to Help Expand Services

Barnstable MA, November 26, 2019 – On behalf of the Department of Health and Environment, Barnstable County is pleased to announce that Cape Cod Healthcare has awarded the Public Health Nursing Division $3,000 for outreach to vulnerable and underserved populations in FY20. Funds will be used for activities conducted by the “Ask a Public Health Nurse” initiative.
The Barnstable County Public Health Nursing Division developed the ‘Ask a Public Health Nurse’ initiative in 2012 when it received a grant from United Way to provide services to consumers at food pantries. Nurses currently spend about 70 hours per month administering the program and are stationed at one of 22 participating sites to offer blood pressure readings, glucose screenings, health information, flu shots, and other health resources. The grant from Cape Cod Healthcare will help expand the program by at least two more sites on Cape Cod.
