Tuesday, June 25, 2019 – Today in the Harbor View conference room, the Barnstable County Department of Health and Environment and the Cape Cod Cooperative Extension presented: Are We Prepared for the Next Big Storm? Regional Efforts and Lessons from Puerto Rico.
The Harbor View conference room at Barnstable County was full of coastal managers, environmental organizations, town officials, and other stakeholders today to discuss how prepared our Cape Cod communities are for major hurricanes, coastal and inland flooding. Ruperto Chaparro Serrano, director of the Puerto Rico Sea Grant Program, discussed the damage caused by Hurricane Maria in 2017 and his work to prepare, adapt, and respond to future events.
Matt Charette, Director of Woods Hole Sea Grant Program, Greg Berman, Coastal Process Specialist – Woods Hole Sea Grant/Cape Cod Cooperative Extension, Shannon Hulst Jarbeau, CFM, Floodplain Specialist/CRS Coordinator – Woods Hole Sea Grant/Cape Cod Cooperative Extension also presented.
