Regional Transportation Plan Public Meetings: June 3 & 5 Planning for the Future Transportation Needs of Cape Cod
The Cape Cod Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) is preparing the 2020 update to the Regional Transportation Plan (RTP). A series of public meetings is scheduled for the first week of June 2019, which will build on public input gathered earlier this year through listening sessions, an online survey, and other outreach events. The RTP is the long-range plan that sets the vision for the region’s transportation system through 2040 and beyond.
This round of engagement will gather feedback to prioritize $1.1 billion in funding expected over the next 21 years. The meeting will include discussion of the recently-released Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) Cape Cod Canal Transportation Study draft report (see announcement below). Public meetings will be held at the following locations at the times listed:
- PROVINCETOWN: Veterans’ Memorial Community Center (2 Mayflower Street) – Monday, June 3, 2019, 5 p.m.
- BARNSTABLE: Hyannis Transportation Center (215 Iyannough Road) – Wednesday, June 5, 2019, 10 a.m.
- SANDWICH: Sandwich Town Hall (130 Main Street) – Wednesday, June 5, 2019, 5 p.m.
Each meeting will begin with a presentation by Cape Cod Commission staff, which is expected to last approximately 30 minutes, followed by any opportunity for questions and comments.
A public meeting of the Cape Cod MPO is scheduled for June 17, 2019 at 1 p.m. to consider release of a draft 2020 RTP for a 21-day public comment period. The Cape Cod MPO is expected to consider endorsement of the 2020 RTP its meeting scheduled for July 15, 2019 at 1 p.m.
Cape Cod MPO meetings are held at the East Wing Conference Room, Old Jail Building, 3195 Main Street (Route 6A), Barnstable, MA 02630. Transit service is available on the Cape Cod Regional Transit Authority’s Barnstable Villager Route (Barnstable Village-Courthouse stop).

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) has released the Draft Final Report for the Cape Cod Canal Transportation Study
MassDOT is pleased to announce that the Draft Final Report for the Cape Cod Canal Transportation Study is now available for a 30-day public review and comment period. MassDOT recently completed this conceptual planning study to evaluate existing and future transportation safety and congestion deficiencies in the Cape Cod Canal Study Area. The study process included the development and analysis of multimodal transportation alternatives for roadways, transit, and bicycle and pedestrian facilities in order to address identified deficiencies. The Draft Final Report includes recommendations that are intended to improve multimodal transportation conditions in the Cape Cod Canal Study Area.
