Message From the Cape Cod Regional Municipal Police Academy Director Peter L. Carnes

On Behalf of the Chiefs of Police of the Cape Cod Law Enforcement Council, The Police Academy Board of Directors, The County Commissioners of Barnstable County, and our County Administrator, is it my privilege to invite you to visit www.capecodpoliceacademy.org where you will find important links for the application process, physical requirements, as well as the payment for Attendance at the Recruit Class starting on July 8, 2019. We are extremely proud to have this Academy become a reality within our Cape Cod and Islands Region. We also recognize our valuable partners at Joint Base Cape Cod, who have provided extraordinary assistance for this endeavor to become an opportunity to provide excellence in Police Recruit Training.

Successful completion of the ROC is required under M.G.L. Chapter 41 §96B to be a sworn municipal, University of Massachusetts, or environmental police officer in the Commonwealth. The ROC is organized into three (I-III) volumes with multiple subtopics. The ROC takes 20 weeks to complete and covers 21st Century Policing best practices with specific emphasis on the following core principles:

Physical Requirements: All student officers must know what to expect ahead of time and must prepare well in advance of the first day of the academy.  The most significant factors in this preparation are: weight control, aerobic capacity, muscular strength and endurance, and flexibility. We ask that you complete and forward your Recruit applications not later than May 17, 2019. These completed applications must be returned to Peter L. Carnes, Police Academy Director, County of Barnstable, 3195 Main Street, Box 427, Barnstable, MA 02630. or E-Mailed to peter.carnes@capecod.gov, We also ask that a Check payable to the County of Barnstable, in the amount of $3,900. ($3,300. Tuition Fee, $600. Base User Fee) must accompany the Recruit Application.
