For Immediate Release: Barnstable County Stands Down from Storm Skylar Operations

BARNSTABLE (MA) March 15, 2018 – At its 4 p.m. conference call on Thursday, the Barnstable County Regional Emergency Planning Committee (BCREPC) reviewed the progress of power restoration on Cape Cod and the status of the regional shelter system.

Significant gains in power restoration have occurred since Thursday morning at 10 a.m. when Eversource reported around 27,000 outages. At 4 p.m. the number had declined to around 7,000.

The decision was made to close the Regional Emergency Shelters at Sandwich High School, Barnstable Intermediate School, and the Cape Cod Regional Technical School effective 4 p.m.

The BCREPC will ensure that anyone still in need will be accommodated in alternative shelter settings.

The Barnstable County Multi-Agency Coordination Center will remain in operation until the shelter demobilization is finalized.

The Barnstable County Regional Emergency Planning Committee would like to thank its shelter partners for their extraordinary efforts during this major event: Barnstable County All Hazards Incident Management Team; the police, fire, and emergency management departments of Cape Cod; the school districts of Sandwich and Barnstable and the Cape Cod Regional Technical High School; Cape Cod Regional Transit Authority; Cape Medical Supply; American Red Cross; Cape Cod Medical Reserve Corps; AmeriCorps Cape Cod; Cape Cod Amateur Radio Emergency Services; Cape Cod Disaster Animal Response Team; and Yarmouth-Dennis Community Emergency Response Team. Thanks to MEMA and Eversource for their support at the MACC.
