Significant Progress in Barnstable County Power Restoration

BARNSTABLE (MA) March 15, 2018 – At its 10 a.m. conference call, the Barnstable County Regional Emergency Planning Committee (BCREPC) reviewed the progress of power restoration on Cape Cod and the status of the regional shelter system.

Significant gains in power restoration have occurred since Wednesday at 6 p.m. when well over 100,000 subscribers were without power. According to Eversource, there were around 27,000 outages at 10 a.m. on Thursday.

Overnight shelter populations were as follows:

Sandwich High School – 20 people, 4 pets

Barnstable Intermediate School 29 people, 1 pet

Cape Cod Regional Technical School – 78 people, 8 pets

As of 10:30 a.m. Thursday the shelter populations were dropping rapidly.

The BCREPC will support sheltering until all shelter clients can return to homes with power.

The Barnstable County Multi-Agency Coordination Center will remain in operation until further notice.

The Barnstable County Regional Emergency Planning Committee would like to thank its shelter partners for their extraordinary efforts during this major event: Barnstable County All Hazards Incident Management Team; the police, fire, and emergency management departments of Cape Cod; the school districts of Sandwich and Barnstable and the Cape Cod Regional Technical High School; Cape Cod Regional Transit Authority; Cape Medical Supply; American Red Cross; Cape Cod Medical Reserve Corps; AmeriCorps Cape Cod; Cape Cod Amateur Radio Emergency Services; Cape Cod Disaster Animal Response Team; and Yarmouth-Dennis Community Emergency Response Team.
