Retired Cape doctor named to national panel on tick-borne illness

An infectious-disease specialist from Falmouth with a long history of treating patients with Lyme disease has been appointed to a national subcommittee studying tick-borne illness.

Dr. Sam T. Donta was one of 53 people assigned this month to serve on six subcommittees of the Tick-Borne Disease Working Group, which is charged with advising the U.S. secretary of Health and Human Services on the future direction of tick disease treatment and research.

“The mission is to decide what needs to be done to further advance the diagnosis” and treatment of Lyme disease and other tick-borne illnesses, Donta said.
