AmeriCorps Cape Cod Hosts a Successful Day of Service on MLK Day

In honor of the Martin Luther King Jr. Day, AmeriCorps Cape Cod successfully hosted its annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service project on Monday, January 15th. The focus of the project was a Cape-wide food drive with collection bins set up previously at various grocery stores.

The food was collected Monday and taken to Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School in South Yarmouth where it was sorted and boxed up to be delivered to local food pantries. By 2:00 pm, AmeriCorps members and volunteers had collected and sorted over 1700 units of food! Big Brothers Big Sisters, Shea’s Youth Basketball Association and YMCA Teen Achievers were among the volunteer groups that participated in the day of service. Volunteers were also sent to local food pantries to help with their projects, such as general clean ups.

Thank you to our amazing AmeriCorps Cape Cod members and all the volunteers for a successful day of service! See more photos here
