Cape & Islands DA Supports My Choice Matters Campaign
On Tuesday, July 11, 2017, Cape and Islands District Attorney Michael O’Keefe and 1st Assistant District Attorney Michael Trudeau presented a check for $6,250 to the Barnstable County Department of Human Services’ My Choice Matters Campaign. On hand to receive the grant were Director Beth Albert, Program Specialist and campaign coordinator Kim Slade, Program Specialist Melissa Janiszewski, and Senior Project Manager Varia Harik.
My Choice Matters is a Cape-wide media campaign sponsored by the Barnstable County Regional Substance Use Council that seeks to promote healthy behaviors. The campaign highlights ways that communities can provide positive choices. Research shows that misconceptions of the prevalence of risky behaviors can actually increase unhealthy behaviors among teens. Changing this perception and providing alternative activities can reduce unhealthy behaviors. In an effort to increase positive decisions among teens, the My Choice Matters campaign reinforces the positive behaviors of our community members and encourages healthy choices.
