Barnstable County on alert for winter storm

The Barnstable County Regional Emergency Planning Committee (BCREPC) held a planning conference call at 11 a.m. Thursday to review the latest forecast on the winter storm approaching the Cape and Islands.

STATUS: Given the predicted intensity of the snowfall, high winds, and projected blizzard conditions, the BCREPC will activate the Multi-Agency Coordination Center (MACC) and put the Regional Emergency Shelter System on standby. The BCREPC will continue to monitor forecasts and reevaluate the situation throughout the duration of the storm.

Travel will be very dangerous during the storm. The BCREPC urges citizens to stay off the roads and highways until crews have had a chance to clear them.
