RSAC Examines Multi-Component Approach to Alcohol-Related Health Harms

On February 2, 2017, the Barnstable County Regional Substance Use Council (RSAC) meeting focused on the public health impacts of excessive alcohol use.  Barnstable County Department of Human Services staff members Melissa Janiszewski, Kim Slade, and Vaira Harik presented the impact of a multi-component approach on reducing alcohol misuse.  “Prevention programs and prevention policies need to work together as part of a multi-component approach.  We need to look closely at community mobilization which can facilitate changes in alcohol-impaired driving through both direct and indirect pathways… Multicomponent programs have the potential to reduce a wide variety of alcohol-related harms,” said Ms. Janiszewski.
