Mental Health & Aging Workshops for Clinical, Professional, and First Responder Workers

Three upcoming gerontology workshops in Mental Health and Aging provide state of the art information and treatment/intervention guidance regarding the unique mental health problems and concerns of older adults.  The series is for clinical and professional staff responsible for the emotional health of older adults in a variety of service settings, and for first responders who encounter mental health concerns in community-dwelling seniors.

Workshops take place at Center for Corporate and Professional Education, in Hyannis on Wednesdays, 5:00 to 7:30pm and are $25 per workshop.  All three programs to be presented by Geropsychiatrists from Mclean Hospital’s Geropsychiatry Division, on the following topics:

  • Seniors, Alcohol and Prescription Drug Addiction – June 1, 2016
  • Emotional Distress in Later Life – June 8, 2016
  • Loss, Bereavement & Depression – June 15, 2016

The Geropsychiatry Division at Mclean provides comprehensive diagnosis and treatment for individuals ages 50 and older who are experiencing emotional, cognitive, or behavioral symptoms. These may include memory loss, mood disturbances, anxiety, difficulty coping with losses and transitions, or behavioral conditions that interfere with care at home or in a long-term care setting.

Here is what past participants of the program had to say: “Excellent! More info than I thought possible in 2.5 hours”; “Incredibly informative and helpful”; “Speaker was excellent! So prepared, so knowledgeable.”

The Gerontology Intensive Workshop Series is sponsored by the Barnstable County Department of Human Services.
