Mass in Motion Tries to Keep Cape Kids Moving

Cape Cod Times, 8/13/13: Decades of data showing American kids are too heavy have begun to change direction. This is undeniably good news but Dr. Thomas Frieden, the director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, told reporters in a conference call last week, “It’s not like we’re out of the woods.”
Here in Barnstable County, the Department of Human Services is trying to improve school nutrition and expand safe routes to school. Barnstable County is also working to increase residents’ use of the wide network of pathways and bikeways. They are also increasing the availability of healthy foods in food pantries and promoting increased use of these foods by pantry clients when preparing snacks and meals.
